These days, I do my work on a Lenovo T60. It has an Intel Core 2 T7200 2.00GHz with 1G of RAM. It came preloaded with Vista Business and IBM ThinkVantage software. According to Vista, it has a Window Experience Index base score of 4.0. Overall, the machine is pretty slick if you don't mind the occasional crash from Explorer and the dreaded blue screen.

I have been itching to have Linux on my laptop. But I don't want to partition my disk. It's already running out of space, and I have some pretty 'important' stuff in there. Further, I don't want to risk losing time doing reinstall if somehow my disk is corrupted.

Sometime after openSuSe 10.3 was released, I decided to have a go with Virtual PC 2007. It went okay. Performance wise is bearable. But I remembered a software I came across a few years back: coLinux. For those who haven't heard of coLinux: Quoting from coLinux official website:

coLinux is a port of the Linux kernel that allows it to run cooperatively alongside another operating system on a single machine.".

I immediately downloaded the latest stable version and gave it a try.

Apa sih KLUWEK?

KLUWEK adalah sejenis bumbu masakan, biasanya dibuat Rawon :)

Namun KLUWEK yang satu ini adalah Kelompok Linux Cewek Indonesia.  Kita berharap wanita itu tidak hanya pandai di dapur dan rumah tangga, lebih dari itu wanita tidak boleh gaptek dengan teknologi yang namanya sistem operasi berlogo Pengiun ini.

Tahukah anda, bahwa UNIX (leluhur dari sistem operasi Linux) adalah sebuah komputer virus yang pertama dibuat? Tidak percaya? Baca saja buku UNIX Haters Handbook. Pastikan anda baca Bab 1 dan Bab 7.

The features of a good virus are:

  • Small Size
  • Portability
  • Ability To Commandeer Resources of the Host
  • Rapid Mutation

Unix possesses all the hallmarks of a highly successful virus. In its original incarnation, it was very small and had few features
Unix feeds off the energy of its host; without a system administrator baby-sitting Unix, it regularly panics, dumps core, and halts. Unix frequently mutates: kludges and fixes to make one version behave won't work on another version. If Andromeda Strain had been software, it would have been Unix.

Site Overhaul

I'm doing an overhaul on the site. This very nice theme is created by fellow Indonesian: Firsta Yudith. Thank you for a very cool template!

The biggest issue is how to migrate the content from our previous database.
Update: I have migrated some of the content using simple PHP scripts. Images are still not migrated properly, so they are still not displayed.
Update: Images will be left in the archive site. No need for migration.

Kadang-kadang kita perlu menjalankan suatu program secara ad-hoc tetapi memakan waktu yang cukup lama. Contohnya: untuk melakukan backup database ke filesystem, atau melakukan proses download ISO (atau AVI/MPG). Tentunya, pada saat menjalankan proses ini, kita tidak menginginkan terputusnya koneksi yang dapat mengakibatnya gagalnya proses di tengah jalan. Sayangnya, kualitas koneksi internet di Indonesia masih kurang baik dan terputusnya koneksi merupakan suatu hal yang umum.
